Tony Jones Woodturner

Tony Jones will be exhibiting with the craftmakersmarket Sun 6th May

Tony Jones

Tony has lived in Droitwich since 1982. In 1998, following a brain haemorrhage,  he rekindled his interest in wood-turning after a break of over thirty years. This was soon after he retired as a police sergeant, having completed thirty years’ service. He now works part-time as a training officer, travelling throughout the U.K.

Being a wood-turner in his spare time affords him the luxury of experimentation and allows him the opportunity to seek out the latent form within a raw piece of wood, making optimum use of the figure, colour and grain. The finish on a piece is just as important to him as the form itself and often takes as long as the turning to complete to his satisfaction. For him, a piece is not just to look at, but should be handled to appreciate the tactile nature of the wood.

His inspiration comes from many sources, some natural, some fabricated. He has attempted to incorporate some of the fluid, organic lines found in the Art Nouveau period and is sometimes inspired by some of the ceramic designs seen either in books or museums.

Much of the wood used is sourced locally although some may be bought in for special commission work. He usually uses native hardwoods, seldom using any tropical wood and then not unless it is pre-used timber.

Carolyn Morgan Stained Glass

Will be exhibiting March 4th

Carolyn attended a stained glass making course in 2000 and it went from there.

Carolyn now has her own workshop set up and spends most of her days working there.    She makes all her own designs and produces the patterns used to cut the glass.

The individual pieces of glass are cut to shape by hand and ground to smooth the edges and refine the joins. After the glass is cleaned, copper foil is put around all the edges and then burnished, fluxed and soldered. The finished piece is then washed to remove all traces of the flux and a small dragonfly is etched.

Contact Carolyn for further details and availability.

Brenda Marshall Textiles

Brenda Marshall -  will be exhibiting March 4th

Artist Statement.

Having my work accepted for display in the Victoria and Albert Museum in
London was a turning point in my life. I went on to win a prestigious
fashion design competition in the Mall Galleries in Bristol and was a
finalist in The Henry Foyle Trust Textile competition. This massive boost of
confidence and acknowledgment of skills, gave me the courage needed to start
out in a new direction.
Formally a successful watercolourist, mixed media artist and tutor, my
medium now is painting with fibres. I work using a modern twist on ancient
felting techniques to blend Merino fibres together with other luxury fibres
and fabrics, including silks, bamboo, soya bean and Alpaca.
I create inspirational contemporary designs of sumptuous wraps, scarves,
bags, jewellery, etc. which are described as bold, artistic, organic,
exotic, colourful…. all individual, one-off pieces are inspired by the
textures and colours found in the natural landscape. These are now being
enjoyed worldwide.
I welcome commissions and regularly run classes.
